Wondering why you need to put in so much effort to get good grades in H2 Chemistry when most jobs do not require you to know your polymers from your plastics.
Instead of telling you why you should study hard for your subjects, we want to show you how your grades for these subjects affect your choice of degrees when you get into university.
In this article, we will be sharing 4 attractive university courses for which H2 Chemistry is a subject requirement. As you know competition for university courses in Singapore is incredibly intense, and as a result, universities end up deciding on which students to enrol in each course by their grades.
Want to know what career possibilities lie ahead for you if you do well in H2 Chemistry? Read on to find out.
What is A Subject Prerequisite?
When going through your university applications, you will come across the term “Subject Prerequisite” quite often. Wondering what it means?
In layman’s terms, it means that you need to have completed a particular subject or subjects before you are allowed to enrol for the following course / programme / subject.
Why so? Because the course is likely to build on more advanced concepts of those prerequisite subjects and without the proper background, a student will struggle to understand what is being taught.
For example:
To get into the Computer Engineering (NTU) you will need a “Pass in H2 Mathematics and H2 Physics”
This means that you need to have studied Mathematics and Physics at H2 level in JC. If you did not, or only studied these topics at H1 level, you will have a slim to no chance of enrolling in this course.
Do note that when the subject requirements state that a minimum of a pass is required – that is the cut-off benchmark. However, with many students enrolling for popular courses, the universities will inevitably end up picking the top students for the course. And that is why it is absolutely critical to get good grades so you can have the pick of your choice of courses.

Without understanding the fundamentals of Chemistry concepts, it would be hard for a student to succeed in these fields.
Subject Prerequisites: A mandatory pass in H2 Chemistry and pass in either Biology or Physics (For both NTU and NUS Medicine and Dentistry courses)
